home | weathervanes | sale! | herons GREENS Pair
of Herons Although either heron can be bought individually, the sculpture was concieved as a pair, and is displayed in the Gallery on a painted wooden base with beach stones. The dynamic negative space between the birds makes this sculpture a joy to walk around. Viewed from different aspects, a movement and interplay between the two birds becomes almost as interesting as the birds themselves. Japanese bronze cranes (representing longevity) were popular in grand Victorian gardens, usually installed at the edge, or in the shallows, of a pond. Many of Greens' heron sculptures have been similarly located. Both herons have integrated brass stakes under their feet, which allow the sculptures to be easily installed in most situations. The standing heron is one of Greens' most repeated studio designs. The two currently in the Gallery are signed, dated and numbered (#8 & #9). | |
